What music can do for a dog?!?!
Based on the idea, “what music does (or can do) for people”.
It started to itch, what could music do for dogs (and in our case, puppies)?
That's where the investigation started..... look at other breeders, research institutes and many other places….
We couldn't find anything about that!!! This had never been clearly tested in this way (which we had in mind).
This was a frightening thought on the one hand, we are not researchers!
We are just people (breeders) with a passion for dogs! Who want that little bit extra for their puppies!
So as with a “professional” survey, what was the survey question:
“Can music help a dog?”
Why?: Especially with a larger litter, the chance of separation anxiety is high.
But also during 'stressful situations' such as fireworks during New Year's Eve,
or simply during the adjustment period at their new home.
Will they have something to focus on, or to distract them from.
How we proceeded:
From the moment the ears opened (+/- day 16)
we started with a selection of “quiet” music playing the moment they became calm themselves.
So that the music in the pup's subconscious would be "linked" to REST! (that was the thought).
And that thought turned out to be correct!
Within 2 weeks the music could be turned on while the puppies were still very active.
This often resulted in the puppies becoming spontaneously calm.
They then looked for a place and lay down quietly.
Not going to sleep right away, just rest and relaxation!
That's what we were looking for!!!!
We have therefore continued with this after these 2 weeks (which we call phase 1).
Especially playing the selection of music, when they themselves became calm.
Testing every now and then (with success) while they are active.
